The trial team of Tony Staines and James Crouch obtained a defense verdict after a trial concerning an alleged benzene exposure incident that occurred in 2011. The plaintiff claimed that he developed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after he was exposed to benzene while working as a tankerman on the defendant’s barges. During trial, SEK presented expert testimony demonstrating that there was no accepted link between exposure to benzene and the development of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Following trial, SEK preserved the victory by prevailing on a Motion for New Trial, appeal to the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal, writ application to the Louisiana Supreme Court, and Petition for a Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. Corey Parenton assisted the trial team as principal brief writer during the appellate stage.
After years of litigation and over three years of appeals, SEK’s trial victory is now final, with a great result for our clients preserved every step of the way!
